Two bilingual Khmer–English Montessori preschool classes
For 29 years, Bayon School has been working to provide access to quality education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the Angkor temple region, supporting them free of charge from preschool through university.
In continuation of its educational mission, Bayon School is launching a pilot project of two bilingual Khmer–English Montessori preschool classes. In alignment with the Cambodian national curriculum, this pedagogical approach aims to foster each child’s autonomy, curiosity, and personal development in a caring and inclusive environment.
Access to quality education from an early age for disadvantaged children
Our preschool classes welcome 58 children aged 3 to 5 years in a safe, caring, and stimulating environment, where they learn in Khmer and English, laying strong foundations for lifelong learning and contributing to the future development of their community.
In Cambodia, access to a high-quality and affordable preschool education remains limited for many families, making our mission all the more essential.
As the early years are critical for cognitive, social, and emotional development, we provide an age-appropriate learning environment that fosters curiosity, self-confidence, and autonomy.

Access to education, health, hygiene, and nutrition: a comprehensive support system for students
Bayon School provides full and completely free support to all students, which includes:
- Schooling and learning materials
- School uniforms
- Two balanced meals per day
- Quarterly hygiene kits, healthcare coverage, and daily access to the school infirmary
Focus: Elo’s Canteen
The children we support come from highly disadvantaged backgrounds and do not always have access to a balanced daily diet. Their diet is mainly based on rice, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies.
These dietary imbalances can result in significant fatigue, reduced concentration, and an increased risk of school absenteeism.
Thanks to the support of the association Le Rêve d’Elo, Bayon School established Elo’s Canteen in 2015 within the school. Every day, more than 300 balanced meals are prepared for the students.
For primary school students enrolled in the four partner public schools in Siem Reap, meals are prepared at Elo’s Canteen and delivered daily by tuk-tuk directly to their schools. This system ensures continuous access to healthy food under appropriate hygiene and safety conditions.
56 out of 58 children are still waiting for a sponsor
58 children are already enrolled at the school. They are simply still in need of 56 sponsors to continue their support.
Since January 2026, 58 children from disadvantaged families have joined two Montessori preschool classes at Bayon School in Cambodia.
They are already in class.
They are learning.
They are progressing.
Today, their continued education depends on a simple commitment: sponsorship.
